It may be most people's pride and joy, but 150,000 of them had electrical fires that caused $1.3 billion dollars in property damage, 6,300 serious injuries, 750 deaths and 210 were the site of electrocutions.

And the reasons are quite simple and avoidable.

1. They lacked ground fault circuit interupter technology that could have prevented most, if not all, of the loss of human life and possessions.
   
2. They were filled with stupid things like cheap extention cords, worn and frayed appliance and lamp cords and unprotected electrical outlets.

More than 170 million Americans live in stupid houses that were built before GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interuppter) technology. It is usually found only in the kitchen, bath, basement, garage, and outdoor areas.
